Penola Golf Course is 10 kilometres south of the town and is set amidst natural bushland synonymous with the region.

Penola is also famed as the home to Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop, and the visitor centre that honours her life is well worth a visit.

Heritage walks are a popular way to discover the town's fascinating history and you can relive yesteryear by wandering through the historic timber and stone cottages along Petticoat Lane.

Declared a State Heritage Area in 1997, Petticoat Lane retains a number of single storey cottages and is a charming reminder of what life was like in Penola in the 1860s.

THE COONAWARRA & LIMESTONE COAST
A small region with a big reputation, Coonawarra is a wine region known for quality wines that have been produced over generations. Most associated with premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blends, the Coonawarra is famed for its terra rossa soil, which is reputed to be one of the most valuable patches of earth in the Australian wine industry.

Centred on the winemaking town of Coonawarra, Penola is just a short drive away along the Riddoch Highway and is a popular hub of premium food, wine and heritage experiences.

The John Riddoch Centre on Arthur Street is the best place to start exploring the history of the area through pictures, illustrations, and interpretive displays.

Getting behind the scenes with any number of winemakers in the Coonawarra is highly recommended, with private wine tastings, cooking classes and make-your-own blend experiences all available to book.

The nearby Limestone Coast is a world-class destination in its own right and is home to some of South Australia’s most spectacular natural wonders, fresh produce, and stunning coastline. Cellar doors and restaurants are dotted along its path and make the perfect reason to extend your stay in this ruggedly beautiful region.

From mysterious volcanic lakes to prehistoric caves and sumptuous food and wine, the Limestone Coast is well worth the drive from your accommodation at Penola Coonawarra Caravan Park.
